Cassia Kis said calling for a coup was “stupid”. Find out why she changed her mind

A convinced Bolsonarist, the actress Cassia Kis has participated in anti-democratic demonstrations in Rio de Janeiro in favor of the intervention of the Brazilian army against democracy, as well as pulling chains of prayers in defense of a military coup in the country. But you five years ago you called stupid people who did that.

It was at the time of the soap opera “Os Dias Eram Assim” (2017), by Globo, where the librarian Vera lived. Set during the Brazilian dictatorship (1964-1985), the soap opera showed the censorship, persecution and repression suffered by those who defended freedom in the country.

In the story, Renato GĂłes played the actress’s son, who was forced to flee so as not to be killed by the military. Cassia’s character hid her son’s whereabouts and that’s why the library was set on fire.

During interviews at the time, the actress declared that the themes of the soap opera were still current and made her rebel against those who today were calling for military intervention in Brazil.

“It is absurd to think that there are people who are not aware of this period and of all that the dictatorship has meant for our country. Hence, the questioning about where our education is going, which is forgetting such a memory recently,” he told a Globe interview.

“How can someone not know what AI-5 is and what all that meant? As a result, people say they want dictatorship back nowadays. If anyone really knows what that period was like, they don’t will ever think about the stupidity of that,” he added. .

In the same October live broadcast, in which she made controversial homophobic comments, Cassia revealed what made her opinion and behavior change so much. Speaking to journalist Leda Nagle, she said “the pandemic has been wonderful” in helping her discover herself conservative.

“I have a very recent life full of God. This pandemic has been wonderful for me, it brought me the truth. First, through an incredible priest, and I met Brasil Paralelo. I was scared because they were right and not that I was left, because I had already divorced from the left there, in 2014. But I heard about Olavo de Carvalho and I closed the business. But one thing leads to another, of course. I started listening to Father Paulo Ricardo, who is this priest who is in Cuiabá… when I saw it, I was discovering the right,” he said.

Father Paulo Ricardo is an ultra-conservative follower of Olavo de Carvalho and supporter of Jair Bolsonaro, who spreads far-right conspiracies such as “cultural Marxism” and “gender ideology”. In 2019 he was denied by the Swedish embassy for spreading false news about school education in the country, with the aim of reinforcing the lying theses of the so-called “gender ideology”.

Brasil Paralelo is a company that produces politics and history videos with an extremist vision, also spreading the theses of Olavo de Carvalho and several conspiracy theories. In March 2019, German news organization Deutsche Welle classified Brasil Paralelo as a denier (it means denying facts and realities) in an article titled “Historical denialism as a political weapon”. “In its videos, the Brasil Paralelo group claims that it wants to present a history ‘free from ideological narratives’, however, according to historians interviewed by DW Brasil, it does exactly the opposite”, reads the text.

The company’s denial has also extended to healthcare, with the release of the documentary “7 Complaints: As Consequences of the Covid-19 Case”, which criticized physical distancing measures in the fight against the pandemic, accusing governors of being dictators for following the guidelines of the World Health Organization.

The most recent video posted on Youtube by Brasil Paralelo is titled “Why were the last Marvel films a failure?”, the representation of feminist heroines, black heroines and LGBTQIAP+ characters.

Detail: The last three Marvel films are cinema’s biggest blockbusters in 2022. Released this weekend, “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever” became the highest-grossing November opening of all time in the United States and Canada , featuring black and feminist heroes.
