Singer Lisa Marie Presley died Thursday night (12/1), at the age of 54, after suffering cardiac arrest at her home in Calabasas, California (USA). However, the state was very serious and she could not resist. Her death was announced by her family a few hours after her hospitalization.
“It is with a heavy heart that I share this devastating news: My beautiful daughter Lisa Marie has passed away,” Elvis’ ex-wife and mother of Lisa, Priscilla Presley, said in a press release. “She was the most passionate and strong woman I have ever known. We ask for privacy as we deal with this profound loss. Thank you so much for all your love and prayers. And for now, there will be no further comments,” she concluded.
She was born in Memphis on February 1, 1968, the only child of Elvis and Priscilla. Her parents divorced when she was 4 and she moved to Los Angeles to live with her mother, although she regularly visited her father in her hometown. These memories were part of the lyrics to “Lights Out,” one of her best-known songs. “I cried every time I left you, and then I didn’t want to see you. (…) I still keep my watch two hours slow.”
She was 9 years old when Elvis died at the age of 42 on August 16, 1977. And with the death of her grandfather and great-grandmother, she became his only surviving heiress when she turned 25 — Priscilla did not inherit any estate, as she was divorced from the singer.
Lisa Marie sold most of her father’s property except the Graceland mansion where she lived.
The day before his death, he attended the Golden Globes with his mother to cheer on Austin Butler, who won the Best Actor award for playing his father in the film ‘Elvis’, directed by Baz Luhrmann. She said she loved the film and was impressed with Butler’s performance.
Following in her famous father’s footsteps, Lisa Marie’s professional career has focused on music. She has released three albums, “To Whom It May Concern” in 2003, “Now What” in 2005 and “Storm & Grace” in 2012. Only the first one went gold.
She was married four times, including to celebrities like singer Michael Jackson and actor Nicolas Cage, and was the mother of four children. But only three are still alive, among them actress Riley Keough (“Mad Max: Fury Road”). One of Elvis’ nephews Benjamin shot himself in July 2020.
