Cassia Kis says she is unemployed to avoid high pay in homophobic action

Actress Cassia Kis, currently on the soap opera ‘Travessia’, said she was unemployed to try to reduce the value of a public civil action brought by LGBT Citizenship’s Arco Íris Group. The association accuses the actress of making homophobic statements during a live broadcast with journalist Leda Nagle last October and has filed a lawsuit for collective non-pecuniary damages in the amount of R$ 250,000 against the actress.

Cassia’s defense argued that she would have had financial problems and therefore asked to reduce the amount of any compensation. Her lawyer claims that the amount requested is very high and, if the actress loses the case, the sentence would be “the impossibility for her to survive and maintain her family”.

Revealed by Metrópoles, the defense text reads: “In case of acceptance of the request elaborated in the exordial, that the amount arbitrated with compensation for non-pecuniary damage be substantially reduced, due to the fact that the defendant is a natural person and to be unemployed at the moment.”

Despite this accusation, he continues to star in the soap opera ‘Travessia’ and according to press reports, his contract with Globo was recently renewed until 2025.

Grupo Arco Íris de Cidadania LGBT believes that Cassia Kis’ statements are harmful to the LGBT community and demands that the actress be held responsible for the damage caused. In the controversial interview, she said that LGBTQIAP+ couples are causing the “destruction of families”.

The plaintiff’s defense disputes the action, saying the speech “does not involve any assault, prejudice, hate speech, or discrimination against same-sex families.” According to Cassia’s lawyers, “the defendant is only a Christian who believes in the concepts and dogmas of the Catholic religion and wants to live his life according to Christian doctrine”.

In addition to homophobic speeches, Cassia Kis participated in an anti-democratic demonstration in a Bolsonarista camp in Rio de Janeiro.
