Armie Hammer blames childhood abuse on toxic behavior

Actor Armie Hammer (“Call Me By Your Name”) has given his first interview, two years after being accused of sexual harassment and rape. In his defense of him, the 36-year-old actor claimed that he was sexually abused by a pastor when he was 13, which caused him to develop this type of inappropriate behavior.

She also denied the sexual assault allegations and said she considered suicide because of the allegations, which marred her art career.

In the Air Mail interview, Armie said when he tried to tell his parents about the abuse, he found no support. Her parents thought she was lying, because “a man of God,” as they called the attacker, couldn’t have done such a thing.

“What is this [o abuso] it was introducing sexuality into my life in a way that was completely out of my control,” she said. “I was helpless in this situation. I was not in control of the situation. Sexuality was presented to me in a frightening way that I had no control over. Then my interests formed: I wanted to be in control, sexually.”

As more controversial allegations surfaced, including cannibalistic tendencies, he fell into such a deep depression that he lost the will to live. “I waded out to sea and swam as far as I could, expecting to drown, get hit by a boat or be eaten by a shark,” he said. “Then I remembered my kids were at the beach and I couldn’t do this to them.

Hammer is the father of three children from his marriage to Elizath Chambers which ended in 2020.

Although he has admitted to being toxic and “emotionally abusive” to the women who accused him, he denies committing the crimes he was accused of.

“I was with these young women, in their early twenties, while I was in my 30s. I was a successful actor at that point. They could have been happy just being with me, they could have said ‘yes’ to things that I maybe wouldn’t say of their own free will. There was an imbalance of power in the situation,” he admitted.

Armie says he has become “a healthier, happier, more balanced person” by moving away from Hollywood. “I’m able to be there for my kids in a way I’ve never been…I’m so thankful for my life and my recovery and everything. I wouldn’t go back and undo everything that happened to I,” he continued.

That said, he says he’s ready to assume his mistakes. “I want to admit my mistakes and take responsibility for the fact that I was an asshole, that I was selfish, that I used people to make me feel better, and when I was done, I moved on.”

However, he criticizes the “undo culture” and “sealing lynching”, which does not allow for “redemption” of the person who made a mistake – he said only actor Robert Downey Jr. supported him when “he was in bottom”.

“The moment someone does something wrong, that person gets fired. There’s no chance of rehabilitation. When they throw someone like me into a fire to protect themselves, all they’re doing is kindling the fire. And now that fire is out control. and it will burn everyone,” he commented.

Multiple sexual assault allegations against Hammer surfaced in 2021 and caused him to be cut from several projects. The actor eventually moved to the Cayman Islands, where he checked himself into a clinic and was seen working as a salesman.
