You once said that the audience likes your characters because they recognize themselves in them. Tamara from “Cafe “Cuba”” also fits this definition? Does she have a fairly common psychological type for our country?
I think it’s a little more complicated here. Yes, someone recognizes themselves and accepts them as themselves. Someone else sees in my heroines something that he himself lacks. Well, someone notices his shortcomings, and they annoy him. My Tamara is the same entrepreneur from the “zero” that everyone met on their way or was in her place. She — one of the symbols of those years for our country, which means it will definitely not leave anyone indifferent.
The series takes place in the early 2000s, a time for which many are now nostalgic. What memories does this period bring to you?
The past has one feature – we remember only the good. For me, “zero” is a happy time, the era of KVN, the success of our Dobryanka team. And of course the music — all this soundtrack of fashionable, as it seemed to us then, discos. I myself have long wanted to record a song in the style of zero. Shooting in “Cafe” Cuba “” pushed me to this. On March 14, the song “Roadside Cafe” will be released, for which even the cover is made in the spirit of the 2000s. By the way, this song will sound in the series.
According to the plot, your heroine Tamara has to find a common language with the person she hates. And she has good reasons for this: it is difficult to sympathize and help the woman to whom your husband once left. Why, in your opinion, Tamara is so generous to Natalia?
In Tamara lives the instinct of a rescuer, inherent in many of our women. — she definitely needs someone to help, save, pity someone. In addition, many women tend to help each other. Tamara — not an exception. Sometimes for this you have to step over yourself, your principles, but in general it is about humanity, about the inner question: “If I were in her place, what would I do?”. This is the story of two women who seem to be so different, but at the same time very similar to each other.

From the outside it seems that you and Maria Smolnikova are very different actresses. How easy was it for you to work with each other? Were you able to make friends? Maybe you even went to some performance of Mary in the theater?
Very simple. I consider Masha a very talented actress, unique in her kind. For her shooting in the series — it’s a new experience, but she handled it perfectly. And I’m sure that our tandem in “Cafe” Cuba “” turned out to be very organic. I went to Masha’s performances twice — directly at the Moscow Art Theater in Moscow and on tour as part of the Golden Mask in St. Petersburg.
In many ways, the story of the two main characters in the series is about forgiveness. Psychologists often talk about how important it is to be able not to hold grudges against other people. Do you manage to do it yourself?
Yes, I have learned to forgive. Not without difficulty, but still. In the life of every person there comes a moment when he understands that in order to move on, you need to leave all your grievances. Without this, development is impossible. I had those moments too. It is not necessary to meet with a person and tell him that you forgive. You can do it for yourself, the main thing is from a pure heart.
In a recent interview, you said that Russian women are used to solving problems themselves, and Nekrasov’s “stop a galloping horse, enter a burning hut” has grounds even several centuries later. Don’t you think that Tamara is a clear example of such a woman? What, in your opinion, should happen in order for women in Russia to change and stop taking everything upon themselves?
Probably, men at one point should become responsible. In addition, many of us have already become in the habit of taking on everything and doing it ourselves. Here, not only men must change, but we women must also trust them. Being strong and independent for many is their comfort zone, you have to get out of it.

Or maybe vice versa — is it good quality?
Everything should be in moderation. Personally, today I am one of those women who learn to trust a man as much as possible – and decisions, and deeds, and actions. But, trust — this does not mean that of itself nothing to represent, not to be self-sufficient. At the same time, I perfectly understand everyone who drags everything on themselves, I myself was like that and I empathize very much.
This year you will celebrate your second wedding anniversary with Stefano Maggi. How do you think your family life has changed you?
I can’t say that it was the wedding that changed something, because we quite consciously came to the decision to legitimize the relationship. Rather, in general, I was changing and changing when Stefano appeared in my life. With him, I became calmer: I used to worry a lot for any reason, but now everything has disappeared as if by hand. I met my “stress limit”. (Laughs) I was finally able to relax: not to look for “burning huts”, not to stop the galloping horse. I will not hide: sometimes, as before, I try to do everything myself, but now they gently slow me down, and I don’t really resist.
You — one of those rare celebrities who honestly spoke about their past difficult experiences in abusive relationships. Unfortunately, this is a real problem in our country. There is a point of view that it is important for women who are faced with this to see and hear such stories from public figures, as this can help them get out of the situation. How difficult was it for you to speak openly about this topic?
I understood that I needed to talk about this, because many women find themselves in the same position, and at the same time face-to-face with the problem. Of course, the topic was very painful for me personally. Therefore, with my team, I decided that I would only do it once, but I will tell you about this experience in as much detail as possible in my book “Life Through Laughter”, I will answer questions there that were poured into social networks in batches, I will give advice. And then I’ll close this thread. I understand why this happens, why a woman endures abuse for years. I understand that my revelations, my experience has already helped others, at least, to realize that coexisting with an abuser — abnormal. Whatever the justifications for this: children, family, maintenance. My example proves that you can get out of such relationships, moreover, build your personal life after the abuse.

For many women, you are an example of how you can spit on the numbers in your passport and be happy. In the world it is already quite difficult to surprise someone with the fact that a woman after 40 can have both a great career and a successful personal life, but in Russia the problem of ageism is quite acute. Do you think we will ever be able to finally overcome all these prejudices?
I also have a song with the text: “The numbers in the passport — not the main thing, because the youth of the soul is more important. I sincerely believe that this is so. Moreover, now there is a completely different generation of women – they do not choose any one role for themselves, but strive to be successful in everything. I have a lot of girlfriends – smart and beautiful – who are over 40, over 50, and they are not afraid to start something new: open their own business, change jobs, fall in love, get married. We need to talk about these women. Their stories motivate others, prove that nothing is impossible.
For millions of people in our country, you are the mother of Kolyan from Real Boys. This year, the series should return with a new season. Why do you think people still need The Real Boys?
The Real Boys is more than just a series. The audience treats our heroes as if they were their own: they worry about them, change with them, and wait for them to return. Therefore, we will shoot as much as possible, we cannot just take and let go of this story, we cannot “betray” the audience.
Have you already seen the script?
Yes, I can assure you that all your favorite characters will be, and “Kolyan’s mother”, of course, too. The director of the project, Zhanna Kadnikova, has again found an interesting twist in history, you will definitely like it.
Previously, you said that many viewers associate you with your heroine so much that they believe that you really have a husband – Armen, and a son – Kolyan, you even wrote and gave some advice. Have the audience already learned to distinguish you from a popular character?
I already believed myself that I was Kolyan’s mother! (Laughs) I am even pleased that, according to the audience, I have another family, serial. Of course, I have long been not just “Kolyan’s mother”, but an actress who is known by name and surname. Most viewers are following me on social networks, watching me both on the screen and in life.

Do grateful viewers continue to write to you in private messages? Maybe someone’s review moved you to tears?
They write really often. I try to read all comments and private messages. Usually they are grateful that the best periods of their lives are connected with our series, that my Marina – “Mother Kolyan” – taught me to accept and love myself, helped me get out of depression and build a family. For example, one girl found herself a husband thanks to a common hobby – “Real Boys”.
You often say that you are not a singer. But your songs are loved, sung and waiting for new ones. Are you now making music more for your own pleasure or for listeners who are waiting for new singles?
I began to sing at the call of my heart, and now I sing at the call of the audience. (Laughs) Quite a frequent call, I tell you. Only on New Year’s Eve, we worked out several performances with the team. Yes, I, as before, do not consider myself a singer, I — singing character. What is the difference? I act out more, I live the song on stage. I also have a program in which not only songs, but also comedy sketches. There are four more artists on stage with me and everyone has their own image. At the same time, I don’t like bullshit. Even if my songs are funny, the arrangements and their production are being worked on by leading professionals in their field.
Your songs are largely about humor and incredible self-irony. With the latter quality, people often have “everything is complicated”. Have you always been able to treat yourself with humor? Or did you have to learn?
The ability to humor and irony has always been my “trick”. When I realized that these qualities make me attractive, distinguish me from everyone, I began to use it, to be proud that I have it. And it’s great that my relatives, my viewers and subscribers learn the ability to laugh at myself.

With humor, the situation is now very ambivalent. It seems like you can laugh at everything, but at the same time it is impossible to predict whether your joke will offend or offend someone. Do you think the very nature of humor is killed by the fact that a comedian needs to think carefully before making a joke?
Since humor is primarily focused on the person, there is nothing wrong with the fact that we avoid some topics. As society changes, so does humor. It’s like saying something: you can blurt out without thinking about the consequences, and then prove that you didn’t mean it. Likewise with humor.
A new movie with your participation will be released soon — “On the ruble without a ruble. Tell us more about your character. Why is this project worth seeing?
I play the role of the mother of the heroine Lika – a beauty who does not have a relationship with her young daughter. Movie — this is a sad, but at the same time very ironic story about the fact that in no case should you give up, even if the situation, at first glance, is hopeless.
What other new projects do you have in the near future?
Now I am always busy with the two main premieres of my spring 2023: on March 13, the TV series “Cafe “Cuba”” about the “zero” will be released on TNT. Second premiere — the release of the song “Roadside Cafe”, which I was inspired by this series. Under it, by the way, the concert program was slightly rewritten, with which we will go on tour.
