King Charles III of Great Britain had a conflict with the clergy of the Church of England. According to the Daily Mail, the reason for this was the different views on the organization of the coronation. The monarch wanted to hold a ceremony with more active participation of representatives of non-Christian denominations. This was the reason for disagreement with the Anglican Church, which saw this as a violation of the historical order.

Insiders of the publication said that the tradition does not allow Hindu, Jewish and Muslim spiritual leaders to read prayers at the solemn event. Buckingham Palace stressed that the coronation of Charles III will be “more religious” than the ceremony of ascension to the throne of his mother, Elizabeth II.

The 1688 Bill of Rights obliges the king to declare that he is a “faithful Protestant”. He must also “ensure the Protestant succession”. The Coronation Oath Act also requires the King to promise that he will support the Anglican Protestant Church. Since Henry VIII, British kings have referred to themselves as “defenders of the faith”, and Charles III mentioned that he would like to be called “defender of the faith”.

The Church is obliged to protect the freedom of religion of all confessions in this country,” he said.

Recall that on the eve of the historic event, the official account of the British royal family in social networks published a new portrait of King Charles III and Queen Consort Camilla. The picture shows the monarchs in matching outfits in the Blue Drawing Room at Buckingham Palace. The author of the portrait was the photographer Hugo Bernand.
