Last Sunday, March 16, Queen Margrethe II of Denmark celebrated her 83rd birthday. On the occasion of the holiday, the monarch traditionally went out to the balcony of the Amalienborg Royal Palace in Copenhagen to personally greet her subjects. The birthday girl was accompanied by relatives: in addition to her sons, Prince Joachim and Crown Prince Frederik with their spouses Marie and Mary, all 8 grandchildren of Margrethe appeared on the balcony. Recall that last year four of them — children of Joachim (Nicholas, Felix, Henrik and Athena) — she stripped her royal titles and later explained her decision.

It is noteworthy that four more grandchildren (children of Frederick — Prince Christian, Princess Isabella, Prince Vincent and Princess Josephine) have retained their titles. By the way, Frederick has been fulfilling the royal duties of Margrethe for more than a month now. The monarch, who celebrated the 50th anniversary of her reign last year, was recovering from a serious operation and watched how her heir behaved on the royal throne. However, health problems still did not prevent her from celebrating her birthday and appearing in public.
