The label abandons “Lovezinho” due to lack of agreement with Nelly Furtado

Record label Sony Brasil confirmed on Wednesday (3/5) that ‘Lovezinho’, a hit by Brazilian singer Treyce, has been pulled from digital platforms. Since February, singer Nelly Furtado has charged copyright for the song that uses the “Say It Right” sample.

After months of negotiations, producer Sony reported that a consensus could not be reached among the artists, which led to the decision to remove the music from streaming, such as on YouTube and Spotify platforms.

Until then, the WK company said it would be fair to give up part of Treyce’s composition and offered to pay 20% authorship to Nelly and producers Timbaland and Danja. It is unclear whether the authors declined the offer.

“Because we felt time passed without serious conversation, the publishers of the original work won out [derrubada] with the help of the platforms,” said José Diamantino, legal director of Sony.

According to information from g1, the removal of “Lovezinho” received the consent of Nelly Furtado and the other foreign authors.

Released in 2022, Treyce’s music was a hit at Carnival this year. “Lovezinho” reached the top of the charts and even went viral after the choreography by the influencer Xurrasco, reproduced by Nelly Furtado herself on social networks. However, the Brazilian team was notified by Sony in late February, shortly after the celebrations.
