The ‘House of Cards’ actor has been charged with four new sexual assault charges in the UK
Kevin Spacey has been charged with four counts of sexual assault and one count of “causing a person to engage in nonconsensual penetrative sexual activity.”
The news was revealed last Thursday by the United Kingdom Prosecutor’s Office, which had been investigating a file of Police complaints for more than a year.
“The Crown Prosecution Service has authorized criminal charges against Kevin Spacey, 62, for four counts of sexual assault against three mensaid Rosemary Ainslie, chief of the Special Crimes Division. “He has also been charged with causing a person to engage in penetrative sexual activity without consent.. The charges stem from a review of evidence gathered by the Metropolitan Police in their investigation. The Crown Prosecution Service reminds all concerned that criminal proceedings against Mr Spacey are ongoing and that he is entitled to a fair trial”.
At least one of the charges is believed to stem from the time period in which Spacey was artistic director of the Old Vic theater in London.. Spacey performed his work in the theater from 2004 to 2015. After the actor was accused by several people of sexual harassment in the US, the theater conducted an internal investigation that resulted in the testimony of 20 victims who claimed that Spacey had also abused them.
The cascade of accusations against Spacey began in 2017, when the ‘Rent’ and ‘Star Trek: Discovery’ actor Anthony Rapp claimed that Spacey sexually assaulted him at a party in 1985. Rapp was 14 years old.
Spacey, what he has denied all the accusations made against him since thenhas recently returned to acting and has two films seeking financing at the Cannes market: ‘Gateway to the West’ and ‘Peter Five Eight‘. The producers of the latter have defended the actor in a statement:
“While it is unfortunate that the increase in negative press is in sync with Kevin’s return to work, it is also to be expected,” they said. “There are those who wish he didn’t perform, but are outnumbered by fans around the world who are hoping that an artist they’ve enjoyed for decades will return to the screen.. The production has no knowledge of or comment on the various allegations, and believes it is a matter for the courts to determine their validity, if any. ‘Peter Five Eight’ is a movie for fans who care more about art than scandal.”
