CHIPA: “The industry changes every year, if not every day”

CHIPA, as far as we know you are not only an artist but also a music producer. Tell us, which of your projects are you most proud of?

I have always been involved in music, helped many famous artists, with songs and concerts, development strategy and so on. I’ll write a harmony for a song for someone, for example, “The ice is melting“ mushroom groups. I will do the first solo concert for someone (MONATI). I remember even taking Artik’s CD to the organizer of the party, so that he would listen and call his band for a concert. Various things have happened over the years. From 2008-2011 there was a group “two steps away“. Hits “Thanks to you“, “Gently whisper“ thundered then powerfully and gave us 3-4 years of concerts. Later I produced Alesya Visich. Made a lot of good music, hit “I want right now“. Worked with an underground band “Dancing in the Forest“ over their powerful single “lilies of the valley“. Now I am pleased with the dynamics of the development of the CHIPA&DABY and AMAY projects.

You are the founder of the REPEAT MUSIC label, how many artists are on the label at the moment? What are your goals for 2023?

I founded the Repeat Music label with a partner. Two projects on 360. We also release 20-30 songs from other artists every month.

As a producer, what is one professional piece of advice you would give to an aspiring musician?

Focus and invest in good, quality material.

How long have you been in the music business? How has the music industry changed in the last 10 years?

If you take it clean, then 10 years, and so all your life. The industry changes every year, if not every day. It is important to follow and understand trends and where the music is going. When there was Tik Tok, I watched the changes every day. For example, young, fresh artists grew every day and gave out a new sound and new meanings, when the old ones, to put it mildly, were completely left out. Now the opposite is true: the old men have risen up and work according to the same schemes as in the past. And young people do not understand how they can advertise their music without platforms that are gone or banned.

How do you build relationships with your artists?

Relationships are respectful but strict. Everyone has to plow in order to have a result. I teach them to understand the industry as a whole, as at their initial level, many things can be incomprehensible.

Now you are developing the group CHIPA&DABY, in which you are a soloist at the same time. How was the idea for a duet born? Are you a text writer?

CHIPA&DABY is what the industry needs right now, it’s dance and mid-tempo concept pop music. Stylish and danceable. All on a sad wave, we do fun. All our songs are written by us.

In your opinion, should a musician have a musical education? Why?

Education is only a plus if you have it, and if not, it’s not scary, the main thing is taste and understanding of how and what to do.

Do you share life and music?

I have music 24/7, that’s life.

Tell us about your friendship with Artem Umrikhin (Artik).

Artik is the best friend, we have been friends for almost 20 years. You can say, brother, I completely trust him and love him. We are friends, we support each other, we rejoice in victories and together we cope with the challenges that come in life.

At the end of 2022, the group made a very successful debut with the album “10”. Which track from the album is your favorite and why?

In the album “10”, we were looking for ourselves, trying different things. My favorite tracks are Straboscope and Mon Ami.
