Dua Lipa wins lawsuit after being accused of plagiarism in ‘Levitating’

Dua Lipa and the record company Warner Records won the case against the band Artikal sound systemthis wednesday 7, and secured the copyright of Levitation. The Florida reggae group accused the British singer in 2022 plagiarize the single live your lifereleased by them in 2017.

The complaint alleges that it was “highly unlikely” that Levitating was independently made “given the degree of similarity” between the two songs’ melodies, harmonies and other elements.

According to Reuters, Los Angeles federal court judge Sunshine Sykes said the band was unsuccessful in arguing that the songwriters of Levitating had access to the group’s song, Live Your Life. However, the magistrate gave the opportunity to present a new complaint.

Stewart Levy, a lawyer for the reggae group, said the decision was disappointing and the band was considering next steps. Representatives of Dua Lipa have not yet commented on the case.

Levitating spent 77 weeks on the singles chart hot 100 from the board in the US, peaking at number two in 2021.
