Spotify exec slams Prince Harry and Meghan after breaking contract: ‘Swindlers’

The low productivity in streaming would have motivated the end of the contract with the couple; the head of innovation has leveled heavy criticism at the former partners

Spotify’s innovation chief and monetization supervisor for podcasts, Bill Simmons, has criticized Prince Harry and his wife Meghan Markle after they both parted ways with the platform.

The end of the contract was announced by Simmons himself, in his podcast The Bill Simmons Podcast. According to the American newspaper Wall Street Journalthe reason would have been the low productivity that the couple presented to the stream to receive payment in full.

The former members of the royal family have signed a US$20 million (about R$96.2 million) deal with the platform to deliver diverse content over the next three years.

The Duchess of Sussex has even launched the Archetypes podcast and interviewed the likes of Mariah Carey and Serena Williams. However, the results have not been satisfactory and the decision to end the agreement has allegedly come from both sides.

In an elated tone, Simmons harshly criticized the couple and said he would one day tell the story of how he helped Prince Harry. “I wish I had been involved in negotiating Meghan and Harry’s departure from Spotify. Fucking scammers. This is the podcast we should have launched with them,” she said.

“I have to get drunk one night and tell the story of the video call I had with Harry to try and help him with a podcast idea. It’s one of my best stories, man,” he said.

Review the history

This isn’t the first time Simmons has criticized Prince Harry and Megan Markle. In January of this year, the executive asked him in one of the episodes what Harry’s talent was.

“What does it do? It’s one of those things where it’s like, what’s your talent? Why are we listening to you? So you were born into a royal family and then you moved out… You live in fucking Montecito and you only sell podcasts and nobody cares what you have to say about anything unless you’re talking about the royal family and you’re only complaining about them.”
