Amber Heard’s first comment after losing in court: “My disappointment is indescribable”

A few minutes ago ended a long trial between the former spouses Johnny Depp and Amber Heard. By a jury decision, Amber was found guilty of defamation and must pay him $ 10 million plus 5 million punitive damages (out of 50 requested). In turn, Depp will also pay, but “only” 2 million – he was found guilty of libel on one count out of three declared.

According to journalists who were on duty at the courthouse, Amber did not come out to them (and Johnny did not appear at all for the announcement – he flew to London). But almost immediately a post appeared on her blog with a comment on the verdict:

My disappointment that I feel today cannot be described in words. I am shattered by the fact that mountains of evidence are still not enough to match the power and influence of my ex-husband.

I am even more disappointed by this verdict, which means for all women. This is a regression. This takes us back to a time when a woman who is not afraid to speak in public is shamed and humiliated. This revives the idea that violence against women should be taken seriously.

I think that Johnny’s lawyers managed to close the eyes of the judges on free speech and make them ignore the fact that we won such a landslide victory in the UK.

I’m sad that I lost this case. But it makes me even sadder that I seem to have lost the right I thought I had as an American to speak freely and openly.
