English actor Julian Sands, known for his work in films and series such as ‘A Window on Love’ and ‘Gotham’, has been missing since January 13. The situation occurred after the actor did not return from a hike in the mountains of Los Angeles in Southern California. After more than five months, the Sands family spoke out about the situation for the first time.
“We continue to hold Julian in our hearts with vivid memories of him as a wonderful father, husband, explorer, lover of nature and the arts, and as an original and collaborative artist,” the star’s family said in a statement released Friday. Family members also thanked the search teams who dedicated themselves to trying to find the 65-year-old actor. According to Deadline, eight search operations were conducted in conjunction with eight other rescue operations after the disappearance.
Unsuccessful searches resumed
The searches were even suspended due to extremely harsh weather conditions in the western United States, with cases of heavy storms caused by the winter, but have recently resumed with the arrival of summer in the northern hemisphere.
On Saturday (6/17), efforts were restarted by more than 80 volunteers, rescuers and crew members in an extensive search of the areas near where Sands was last seen. The actor disappeared in the Mount Baldy region, located in the San Gabriel Mountains, less than 80 kilometers northeast of Los Angeles. This is one of the tallest mountains in the region, standing over 10,000 feet (3,048 meters).
“Despite milder weather recently, parts of the mountain remain inaccessible due to extreme alpine conditions,” the San Bernardino Sheriff’s Department said. “Several areas are characterized by steep terrain and ravines, with layers of ice and snow reaching a thickness of more than 3 meters.”
Two helicopters and drone teams were also used, but the actor is missing. Despite the limited capacity, the department said the case remains active and the search efforts will continue.
