Drena, daughter of Robert De Niro, has opened her heart to share a lengthy message following the death of her son, Leandro, on July 2.
Apart from expressing the pain she is currently experiencing, the actress revealed that she was able to hold the dead teenager in her arms for the last time.
Robert De Niro’s grandson received a final hug from his mother
This year, on July 3, Drena De Niro posted on her Instagram account a black and white photo, in which her firstborn is seen smiling, and a letter.
“I can barely write through tears,” she confessed before saying she’s grateful for all the support she’s had at this difficult time.
This Monday, TMZ reported that “police sources” told them that Robert De Niro’s grandson was found dead, “sitting in a chair,” inside a New York apartment.
“We are told there were no obvious signs that led to his death. He was found by a friend who hadn’t heard from him for a few days and (who) was checking how he was doing,” they report.
According to the report, authorities said they were already investigating Leandro De Niro Rodriguez’s death “as an overdose.”
In her recent “post,” Drena condemned, “None of this is right or fair and my heart hurts in a way I never knew was possible while I’m still breathing and barely working.”
“Leo dear, I love you today as the first day I held you in my arms. The same man who picked us up from the hospital when you were born took us to the funeral home where I touched and hugged you for the last time.”
The interpreter assured that her descendants made “everything bearable and every burden lighter” for her, and that she can’t believe “that none of this is real.”
“You didn’t deserve to die like this, but I can only believe that God needed a strong and powerful angel in his army. I support you every second of every moment,” he said.
“I am my heart and my memories until I am with you again. My heart is forever broken. Me, dad and your family love you. I love you with every beat of my crying heart.”
Robert De Niro and his family prepare to say goodbye to Leandro
Yesterday afternoon, Robert De Niro and Drena, who he adopted when he was married to Diane Abbott, were caught by the Daily Mail after what happened.
The two, along with artist Carlos Rodriguez, Leandro’s father, went to the Frank E. Campbell Funeral Home in Manhattan’s Upper East Side neighborhood.
The star of films like “Casino” returned to his home, which is located near the facility, after arranging to say goodbye to his grandson, who was following in his acting footsteps.
