Mark Zuckerberg gets tired of waiting and accuses Elon Musk of not taking the fight seriously

Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Meta, has given up waiting for the clash proposed by Elon Musk, owner of the X. In a note shared on Threads and on Instagram, Zuckerberg expressed his frustration with Musk’s lack of seriousness regarding the event.

“I think we can all agree that Elon isn’t taking this seriously, and it’s time to move on,” Zuckerberg wrote. “I offered an actual appointment. Dana White has offered to make this a legit contest for charity. Elon won’t confirm an appointment, says she needs surgery and now asks to do a practice round in my backyard.”

Zuckerberg’s statement came two days after Musk took to Twitter to share that the fight would be run by his and Zuckerberg’s foundations rather than the UFC, something the Meta CEO disagreed with. Zuckerberg noted, “When I compete, I want to do it in a way that highlights elite athletes at the top of their game. You do that by working with professional organizations like UFC or ONE to get it right and create a great card.”

Elon Musk’s idea

Musk, in turn, tweeted that the fight would be broadcast live on Twitter and Meta, with a special setting. “Everything in the camera frame will be Ancient Rome, so nothing modern,” he tweeted. He also spoke to the Italian Prime Minister and the Minister of Culture, who have both agreed on an epic location. However, Italy’s culture minister later clarified that the meeting would not be held in Rome.

The end of the controversy

The fight, which began as Musk’s bravado, ended without starting the same way. Musk’s lack of commitment and both CEOs’ intentional differences in approach appear to have ended the possibility of the event.

Zuckerberg concluded his note with a closing statement: “If Elon is serious about a real date and an official event, he knows how to find me. If not, it’s time to move on. I will focus on competing with people who take seriously the sport”.
