Marcius Melhem is under investigation for psychological violence against his accusers

Comedian Marcius Melhem, accused of sexually harassing three women, has become the subject of investigations for alleged psychological violence and stalking of his accusers on social media and in interviews. The Public Prosecutor of São Paulo launched the investigation on August 22, including comedian Dani Calabresa among the complainants.

The investigation comes after Melhem previously faced allegations of sexual harassment. The comedian was reported on August 2 and is expected to testify on September 15. The affidavit included videos posted on his YouTube channel in April as evidence.

Melhem’s response

Melhem claims this is an attempt to silence his defense and delete his YouTube channel. He stresses that he created the page only after accusers gave press interviews attacking him. “No one has suffered greater psychological violence than me and my daughters. Unlike them, my career was interrupted, I received death threats and I had to leave the country for a while,” Melhem said.

The comedian underlines that it was the actresses themselves who made the case public and that he seeks justice for himself, unmasking the contradictions with the evidence. “They try to silence my voice when the public becomes aware of my arguments,” he adds.

Impact on victims

Prosecutor Paulo Henrique Castex, who coordinates the investigation, stresses that the accusers consider themselves victims of a defamatory campaign that has resulted in massive attacks and psychological and psychiatric repercussions on their careers. “Psychological violence constitutes a form of ‘slow violence’, cumulative and persistent,” says Castex.

The lawyer representing the actresses preferred not to comment.

Judicial complaint

Melhem was accused of sexual harassment against three women, who were his employees while he was director of Humor at Globo. The complaint was accepted by the Court on August 3 and alleges that the comedian made “sexual advances during conversations about the script, the cast and the role to be attributed to the victims”. However, cases involving other women, including Dani Calabresa, were dismissed due to statute of limitations.

The deposition in the case, which is being handled in secret, is scheduled for September 15.
