“I feel the revolution,” comments Grag Queen in Pride Month

I looked and said: po-de-ro-sa! Grag Queen, in fact, is the new sensation of Brazilian pop and now more than ever it is conquering its international space. After becoming a champion in the reality show “Queen Of The Universe”, the artist released “You Betta”, her first song in English, in collaboration with producers of famous artists such as Britney Spears and Camila Cabello.

And don’t think it ended there, okay? The first performance of the hit took place directly from “RuPaul’s Drag CON 2022”, considered the largest drag culture event in the world, simultaneously with the arrival of the music video. He rocked too much and delivered everything!

Wade:

Taking advantage of LGBTQIA + Pride Month, the Celebrities and celebrities had an exclusive chat with the artist who comments on the new steps in his career, the inspirations and the importance of representation in the music scene.

Grag, to begin with, tell us a little about the new single, “You Betta”, in fact the first in English and produced by such well-known names in the market, right?

“You Betta” is a creation, we got together, me, Leland, Cole and Jesse to talk and make a song. We started making this song that had the ‘lyrics’ but was also very mainstream. We started “You Betta” and it’s really important to me. Really a blast in the dark because we never know how it will happen, if people will like it and if they will wear it out. And from that, wait for the next versions. We don’t know which language (laughs). International speaking, right? (laughs).

It’s the month of Pride, if you could take stock of the current scenario, what would it be like? Especially knowing that, even with so many battles, we have a long way to go in fairness and respect!

We have a gigantic path to walk, we can say that we are moving, we are going somewhere. I feel this revolution, these plantation fruits that have come from the past, to the people we know now. We are taking this movement, this flag, representing it with art, with quality.

This has allowed us to enter people’s homes more and more, to be respected and not accepted, because we must not be accepted, we really need to be respected, seen as an idol, as a heritage of the country. I represent Brazil in a competition and I am an LGBTQIA + person, so that’s it. I guess we’re on our way, but the road is long.

When it comes to inspiration, what are the first names that come to your mind and why?

I always do Linker. Perfect! He sings with his soul, Cancer, he writes, he has stage presence, he acts and I love him. Let’s talk for sure about Gloria Groove, who is also drag, I am inspired a lot, both in musical freedom and in vocal freedom, in the function of having gogo and being a singer like her. All LGBTQIA + artists.

We are not just artists and we are in the industry, we are in the industry as LGBTQIA + people and we know what we go through, the “no” we take, the ads we stop closing. So I admire all the people who are in my community and who are struggling and coming to the market.

How do you expect your projects to affect the audience?

What connects me most with myself is remembering that I wanted to do things that communicated with people, that weren’t empty, that weren’t superficial. So I feel they are motivational like “Bota Fé”, “Fim de Tarde”, and that has given me support, very broad feedback from people who have been positively touched. I am very grateful for that. Not just to be an artist, but to touch people’s hearts in an incredible way that is art, it’s music.

And if you could say something to Grag from 10 years ago, what would you say?

I said “Grag, hold on, I know it’s all very confused, that there is chaos at school, at home, in church. Everyone tries to heal you, change you, tell you how to do it, how to happen. chaos, you will not understand anything, you will hate yourself, but rest assured that at some point freedom will sing and you will feel like a new person, who loves you. and you will become the ‘Queen of the Universe’, I know you don’t believe it, but trust the mother, that the mother is from the future and the mother knows what she is talking about. “
