The singer carried around 40 kilos of food in his luggage, including fruit, vegetables and even meat.
Giulio Iglesias, was arrested at the airport in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic, due to the contents of his suitcase. The 80-year-old singer was traveling from the Bahamas to the city and his luggage was confiscated by local authorities, according to the Spanish newspaper Brand.
Iglesias had about 40 kilos of food in his luggage, which needed to be inspected. The singer risked arrest, according to the publication, for carrying such a quantity of food on an international flight.
In Iglesias’ luggage one could find fruit such as strawberries, raspberries, blueberries and cherries, but also vegetables, legumes and cereals such as tomatoes, beets, celery and beans. Spinach, lettuce, mushrooms and meat were also among the singer’s possessions.
The food was seized because, according to a member of the country’s Ministry of Agriculture, the entry of products of animal and plant origin could put national production at risk. That’s why there is baggage screening.
The one who started the year quietly was Julio Iglesias, who at Punta Cana airport broke down 42 kg of food that he was carrying in his suitcases.

It is normal for countries to carry out this type of surveillance to also avoid possible risks of biological contamination or that, for example, an exotic species of living beings could enter the country and become a pest.
According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock, in Brazil, for example, bee products (honey, wax, propolis, etc.) are prohibited; fresh fruit and vegetables; flowers, plants or parts thereof; bulbs, seeds, seedlings and cuttings; craftsmanship with unprocessed products of plant or animal origin; pesticides and similar; soils and substrates; exotic species: ornamental fish and birds; and products of animal origin intended for decoration.
