“But I I didn’t know what to do because I didn’t know what I had. So what my son did was, look how my son is, he got in his car, he went to the hospital that’s around the corner from my house, he went to the mental hospital and he just signed and stayed there,” she said at the time.

In the conversation she had with CNN en Español in 2014, the host said that she also went to a psychiatrist after learning about her son’s condition.
” I started going to this psychiatrist with my son. And that’s how I saved his life,” he recalled at the time.
“Almost no Latino understands what mental illness is,” he said, “if the procession is in, no Latino wants to go to a psychiatrist because they’re going to be told they’re crazy.”
Cristina Saralegui is married to Marcos Ávila. They met when she was 35 and he was 24. In April 1986, Jon Marco, their only child together, was born.
