On the eve of 41-year-old Natalie Portman appeared on the cover of the new issue of Variety. In the photo shoot, the actress appeared in a futuristic look and outfits resembling armor – not at all by chance, because in the new Marvel film Thor: Love and Thunder, directed by Taika Waititi Portman, she got the role of warrior Jane Foster. The fans were surprised by the physical form of the actress and are sure that the muscular figure of their favorite is only the result of computer graphics. However, it turns out that everything is not as simple as expected. Portman spoke about how she had to change in the new ampoule in a long interview.
Before filming Black Swan, I was asked to be as small as possible. Here, on the contrary, it was necessary to become as large as possible. It was an amazing challenge – she compared the preparation for the role in “Thor” with her other famous work by Darron Aranofsky.
Note that for the new role, the actress worked with a professional trainer for almost a year and gained weight. The emphasis in training was placed on the arms and shoulders, and, judging by the frames, Portman really succeeded. However, the film crew still resorted to some visual manipulation with the growth of the actress: in scenes with partner Liam Hemsworth, Portman had to walk on a wooden stage in order to somehow smooth out the difference in height (the actress’s height is 160 centimeters, while Hemsworth is 190 centimeters).
Portman also admitted that her children were incredibly happy with the participation of the actress in the Marvel project.
This is probably the phase of my career where I just want to impress my kids. My daughter is five years old, my son is 10, and they were so passionate about the process of filming – they came to the site, saw me in a raincoat, and it all seemed very cool to them. You know, it’s rare when my kids say, “Please go to work!”. Usually, just the opposite happens.
Natalie noted that the dissatisfaction of film critics does not bother her – we note that experts consider the blockbuster frankly “weak”. However, the actress does not lose hope that years later the film will be appreciated.
The critics blew it… This movie and Star Wars are examples of movies coming out and you’re like, “God, this is a disaster.” And after 20 years, more precisely, even after 30 in the case of “Leon”, these are everyone’s favorite films.
Thor: Love and Thunder premiered in the United States on Thursday. On the red carpet, Portman appeared with her husband, a French-American dancer and choreographer. Benjamin Millepied.
