Preta Gilwho revealed she was cured of bowel cancer three months ago, spoke about the conversations she had with her father, Gilberto Gil, during chemotherapy.
“I am less afraid of death”, explained the artist participating in Roda Viva. She reported that at the beginning of treatment she felt more vulnerable, explaining that her fear of him had decreased after conversations with Gil.
“My father always talked about death […] In a poetic way he taught me to face death […] It helped me understand that finiteness could come for me.”
In addition to talking about the change in her perspective on death, Gilberto Gil’s daughter also recalled the most difficult moments she faced during chemotherapy. “When I got septicemia while doing chemotherapy, it was a turning point, because I had a near-death experience, I was revived by doctors and I came back.”
Preta Gil also said she is focused on enjoying life as much as possible, saying she is now “afraid of not living.” She reported that she is afraid to think that she might not be alive to see her granddaughter grow up. “I tell her, ‘I healed myself for you,’” she explained.
