Shakira admitted that it was difficult for her and her children, Milan and Sasha, to process her split from Gerard Piqué.
“So it was difficult not only for me, but also for my children. Incredibly difficult,” he said in an interview with Elle, published in September 2022.
She already shared that the way she managed to get over the pain of what happened was by creating new ‘beats’, some of which she apparently drops heavy hints at the ex-footballer.
The singer recently revealed how her firstborn son Milan, 11, has been processing his own feelings following his parents’ split.
The eldest son of Shakira and Piqué found a way to cope with adversity
In the midst of promoting her album, “Las mujeres ya no Lloran,” Shakira confessed that Milan did the same thing she did to cope with what happened: write songs.
“I remember she wrote two beautiful songs during the whole breakup process and they would make anyone cry,” she said during a conversation with Apple Music’s Zane Lowe, which aired on YouTube on March 20.
According to the interpreter of “Pies descalzos”, the little boy has found in his artistic talent the way to heal when he feels bad.
“Whenever he feels a little down, he goes to the piano and writes music. This is also his purification, his treatment”, he argued.
“He may be a producer but he is obsessed with football. “He wants to be a player, so right now he has that part, but I recognize that he’s a great composer and producer,” he added.
Shakira did not hide what happened with Pique from her children
In January 2023, Shakira released her hit ‘Bzrp Music Session #53’, which reportedly contained accusations against Pique and was criticized for exposing Milan and Sasha to controversy.
Now, she explained the reason she didn’t hide from her children what happened with the businessman: “It was a learning curve. There were many lessons from this experience.”
“Society may teach us to hide our feelings from our children, but this is wrong, because they know and perceive things in many different ways,” he said.
“They know when an adult is lying to them. They want the truth because if you don’t give it to them, they make up their own version of the truth. Their interpretations of reality can be wrong and then things get very complicated for them,” he added.
The Colombian emphasized that she thinks it is right to talk to minors if there is a problem, to know their views and vulnerability and to tell them that “life is not always perfect” and that it is okay to face losses.
Likewise, she mentioned that her children, who currently live with her in Miami, “knew that my songs were part of that healing process.”
