Bronco has expressed regret over the incident in which at least 9 people lost their lives due to a stadium collapse on the evening of May 22.
The famous group was scheduled to perform at a political rally in the city of San Pedro Garza García, Nuevo León (Mexico).
However, moments before they appeared on stage, it fell, due to strong winds, on top of the audience present.
According to CNN en Español, 70 injuries and 9 deaths have been reported so far, including a minor.
Bronco breaks his silence on what happened
While rescue efforts continued at the scene of the accident, Bronco took to social media to speak out.
“Our staff, like us, are very well,” Guadalupe Esparza, the group’s leader, initially said to the camera in a video posted on Facebook.
The 69-year-old singer explained that what happened was something they couldn’t control: “These are things that are out of someone’s hands. We know absolutely nothing.”
“We just hope that all our fans, families, those who went to that event are okay and that there are no stronger things to regret,” he commented at the time, unaware of the magnitude of the tragedy.
“Obviously, we feel sadness, distress, because it didn’t happen, but mainly because of the people who came to see us. We sincerely hope everyone is well. Hugs and blessings,” he concluded.
In the comments section of the post, Bronco fans expressed their joy that members and coaching staff were unharmed.
Why did the scene collapse?
Univision Noticias reports that, according to authorities, the collapse of the structure was caused by strong gusts of wind that affected the entire city.
Eric Cavazos, director of the state’s Civil Protection, said agency personnel inspected the temple facility and verified its safety.
For his part, Mexico’s presidential candidate Jorge Álvarez Máynez said he hoped “investigations will be carried out to see if these reviews were exhaustive” in order to determine responsibilities.
