Future king? Queen Elizabeth II delegated part of her powers to Prince Charles

______________________________

The other day, Buckingham Palace traditionally published a list of official duties of members of the royal family, which this time has undergone significant changes. If earlier among the functions of the 73-year-old Prince Charles there were 13 points, now they are under the wording “a number of parliamentary and diplomatic duties.” This means that Charles will more often replace Elizabeth II at state events and on trips to countries in the United Kingdom, which she can no longer visit due to poor health. Despite the fact that sources close to the court claim that the document has only been slightly updated, this is a big event for British society.

Recall that this year the palace reported that Her Majesty is experiencing problems with movement. The Queen missed a number of important events, including the opening ceremony of the new session of Parliament in early May, where she was represented with an official speech by Prince Charles and his son, 40-year-old Prince William, who was present for the first time. After that, rumors spread in society about the imminent transfer of the throne, which, however, have not yet materialized.

During this time, Elizabeth nevertheless appeared in public several times, including at events dedicated to the celebration of the Platinum Jubilee of the reign in early June. She stepped out onto the balcony of Buckingham Palace twice to greet citizens and also met her one-year-old great-granddaughter Lilibet, daughter of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle. However, she refused to participate in most of the anniversary celebrations. For example, the queen was absent from a church service at St. Paul’s Cathedral, and also missed the Epsom Derby and the big pop concert at Buckingham Palace, which even Kim Kardashian asked to attend.
