Evangeline Lilly, the actress who played Kate Austen in the “Lost” series, and more recently Wasp in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, has announced that she has stepped away from Hollywood.
In a post on her Instagram account, Lilly reshared a video recorded in 2006 in which she expressed her desire to become a “retired actress” in the next decade. “In ten years, where would I like to be? I’m afraid to admit this to the rest of the acting world, but ideally in 10 years I would like to be a retired actress and have a family,” Lilly said in the video. “I would like to write and impact people’s lives in a humanitarian way.”
In the caption of the video posted on June 3, 2024, Lilly writes: “I am so full of joy and contentment today as I live my vision. Praise God, I feel so grateful for my blessings. Walking away from what seems like the most obvious choice (wealth and fame) can sometimes feel scary, but stepping into your dharma replaces fear with fulfillment. I may return to Hollywood one day, but for now this is where I belong.
Lilly played the role of Kate Bishop in all six seasons of “Lost,” from 2004 to 2010. Her performance earned her a Golden Globe nomination for Best Actress in a Drama Series. She is also known for playing Hope van Dyne / Wasp in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, debuting as the character in 2015’s “Ant-Man”; in addition to playing Tauriel in Peter Jackson’s “The Hobbit” trilogy, she appeared in the last two films “The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug” and “The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies”.
