Chiquinho Scarpa recently attracted attention for his statements on the podcast Festa na Firma, by comedian Wellington Muniz, Ceará. Among these, that “he doesn’t like the poor” and that in the past he received “a dwarf’s education”. “I don’t like poor people”

In the podcast, Chiquinho commented: “To the wake of a poor man, you will forgive me, but I never went. I don’t like the poor, the wake is fine. The poor always have something to ask for, if you ask for it. The worst thing about poor people is that you arrive and say: ‘How are you?’ And then you’re ‘done’. ‘My mother is sick, my father lost a leg, my daughter lost a tooth’… He spends half an hour distilling all the problems. Go to a poor man and ask him : ‘How are you?’.

Slave in Morocco

In March 1991 Chiquinho Scarpa was the subject of criticism due to statements made to the magazine Interview (n. 135) in which he said «he had a slave». The fact had negative repercussions and was cited in a repudiatory tone by several federal deputies of the time, such as Maria Luiza Fontenele (PSB-CE), Carlos Santana (PT-RJ) and Benedita da Silva (PT-RJ). The latter even read passages from the magazine in plenary, as we read in the Diary of the Chamber of Deputies:



“‘Everyone knows that I have a black man in Morocco, Dudli, a slave who simply doesn’t come to Brazil because the laws here don’t allow it.’ The interviewer then asked, “I am amazed: a slave?” And he replied, resolutely: ‘Of course, in practice, there is slavery there. Daniel Amar, French-Moroccan and owner of Danone, gave it to me. It’s in his palace, near Casablanca [cidade] where I stay every time I go to Morocco. He was the one who gave me Dudli. Dudli is mine! Of course I can’t bring it here because the Brazilian Constitution doesn’t allow it. It was in honor of my bogeyman that I named my German dog who died last year.”

“Anyone with any sanity knows it was a joke. I’m going to sue this congressman,” Scarpa said of Santana at the time. As stated in the edition of EstadaoAt the time the entrepreneur also had other ideas to defend himself:

In the same interview with Interview, in 1991, the businessman also mentioned what he called “dwarf breeding.” In the Festa da Firma podcast, Chiquinho Scarpa recalled the fact, making pejorative statements towards people with dwarfism who were allegedly his employees in the past: “I raised dwarfs. They were dwarfs who came to work for me, who I rented. And then there were the ‘remote-controlled dwarfs'”

Then he explained: “Because in the past they had different devices. One to turn on the sound, another for the television, another for I don’t know what, so you lost [os controles] to bed. There was a dwarf who stayed here [ao lado] with the tray. I said ‘Channel 11!’. [Colocava no canal]. ‘Turn up the volume!’. And the volume increased. I had a dwarf that never ended. I ended up at the UN!”

Accused of shooting in the garden without permission

According to a report by Folha de S. Paulo, Chiquinho Scarpa was arrested on November 27, 1999 on charges of firing a firearm (which he had permission to possess) in the area of ​​his home, in Jardim Europa, in São Paulo. A neighbor heard the shots and, thinking it was a robbery, called the police, who rushed to the scene.

Scarpa claimed that he had a shooting range at home, but that he was not home at the time of the accident and that his last shooting range had been four days earlier. The police found 61 fired and 15 intact bullets in the villa, as well as two 38 caliber pistols. He paid a bail of R$200 and responded freely, stating that he intended to report the police for the fact that 42 police officers had done the ‘invasion. his house.

Sued by the Princess of Monaco

In 1977, Chiquinho Scarpa had to appear before a Criminal Court judge to publicly apologize after making statements about the intimate life of then Princess Caroline of Monaco. He was sued for slander, slander and defamation due to details regarding an alleged involvement between the two.

In 2013, Chiquinho Scarpa announced to the press that he would hold a ceremony to bury his luxury Bentley in his backyard, inspired by the ancient Egyptian pharaohs who buried their riches. The statement sparked numerous criticisms and reports. It was later revealed that it was a campaign to encourage organ donation.

“It’s absurd to bury something much more precious than a Bentley: your organs,” the slogan said. Scarpa explained to journalists: “I’m not crazy: I won’t bury my Bentley. I did all this to raise awareness among people about a serious problem, which is organ donation in Brazil.”
