Singer Ed Motta caused a great controversy this Wednesday, 12/06, when he expressed a pejorative judgment on one of the most successful musical styles, hip hop. According to the jazz musician, those who listen to the rhythm have no intelligence, defining the public as ‘stupid’ and ‘imbecile’.

“Anyone who listens to hip hop is stupid. Anyone, anyone. Without exception. The other day I saw an excerpt from an interview with this idiot, Rafinha Bastos. ‘Ah, because hip hop is the kind of music I like listen more’. That guy is an idiot”, he said during an Instagram live.

Even more so, live, Motta made other comments on the subject and defended the style he sings, underlining that those who listen to jazz are intelligent people.

Ed’s speech had repercussions on social media and netizens wasted no time in challenging him to repeat the speech for one of the most renowned artists of the criticized musical style. And don’t stop there! There were still comments pointing out racism in the artist’s speech.

“I dare you to FaceTime Bro Brown and call him stupid,” said one. “It’s nothing new that he doesn’t like rap/hip hop, but the way he criticizes it is full of elitism and a lot of prejudice,” another commented. “That Ed Motta line is one of the most prejudicial things I’ve ever heard from a musician, especially being black like him,” another commented.
