Johnny Canales, Tejano music legend and conductor, has died at the age of 77, according to El Mañana de Nuevo Laredo.

The news of his death was announced via the official Facebook page of ‘The Johnny and Nora Canales Show’.

“He was more than a beloved husband, father, TV host, musician and entertainer: he was a beacon of hope and prayer for countless people,” the message reads.

“His infectious charisma and dedication to promoting Latin music and culture left a huge mark on the world. “Johnny’s spirit will live on through the countless lives he touched and the legacy he built,” it added.

In this letter, the public was asked to remember Canales “not with sadness, but with the joy and passion he always brought to our lives.”

At present, the official cause of his death and details of the funeral rites with which he will be dismissed have not been made known.

Johnny Canals was ‘in poor health’

On May 20, a video was posted on the same social media profile in which Johnny Canales is seen sitting on a couch.

“Hey everyone! Thank you for all your prayers. We’re doing really well and we’ll do better with your prayers, so we’ll be here,” she said looking into the camera.

With a smile on his face and a positive attitude, he began his most famous line to finish: “You got it, get it!”

For her part, his wife, Nora, acknowledged that the communicator was “a bit in poor health” so he was looked after and “taken care of properly”.

“He is stable, at home, in his room, watching TV. “It’s fine,” he said, asking to ignore the rumours.

According to Primer Impacto, Johnny Canales was the first to introduce Selena to television when she was just 13 years old.

When she recalled that day in 1984 in an interview for the program in question in July 2021, she said: “She was shaking, I told her ‘don’t be afraid, people are good and they will accept you.’

He also pointed out that he insisted that the so-called “Queen of Tex-Mex” learn to speak Spanish, since until then she only spoke English.
