Former BBB Matteus Amaral declared himself black/brown to enter college in RS

The information is contained in Notice 046/2014, public and available on the IFFar website

BBB24 runner-up Matteus Amaral declared himself black/brown to enroll in the Agricultural Engineering course at the Farroupilha Federal Institute (IFFar), in 2014. The information was confirmed by the institute to the newspaper Folha de S. Paulo.

The institute claims that “at that time, according to the 2012 quota law, the only document required to register for quotas was the self-declaration of the candidate. As in other federal educational institutions, there was no mechanism to verify or prove the candidate’s declaration,” IFFar said. No charges were brought against Matteus at the time.

The institution also explained that the national quota policy has been improved over time. Since 2022, for example, the college has adopted hetero-identification mechanisms in student selections.

“Currently each IFFar campus has a committee composed of three main people and two deputies who work in all student selection processes,” explains another part of the note.

From notice no. 046/2014, which is public and contains the results of that year’s selection, it appears that a student named Matteus Amaral Vargasthe same as the former BBB, declared himself ‘black’ to study a degree in Agricultural Engineering, in Alegrete, Rio Grande do Sul. Alegrete is also the name of the city where the former BBB was born and spread during its passage through reality.

The case faced repercussions after a social media post brought the issue to light.

OR Earth contacted Matteus Amaral’s consultants, but received no response. The space remains open.
