“I have lost not only a boss, but a great friend”, regrets the stage assistant, considered the “first employee” of the SBT
Rock, stage assistant proud to be “the first employee of SBT“, he recalled the friendship of about sixty years he had with him Silvio Santo in a tribute posted on his Instagram this Saturday 17. The presenter died at the age of 93, due to bronchopneumonia.
In the text, Roque emphasizes: “I have lost not only a boss, but a great friend. Silvio has always been more than a boss. He was a master, someone who taught with a smile and believed in simplicity and the value of people.”
He also cites the presenter’s ability to make everyone feel special and considers him one of the greatest Brazilian television icons. “For me, the loss is even greater: I have lost a brother in life.” Below is the full farewell letter published by Roque.
How Roque Met Silvio Santos
Roque met Silvio Santos at Rádio Nacional, while he was making deliveries for the station. He also helped welcome the people who would participate in the Manoel da Nóbrega Program, and it was then that his kindness and cordiality attracted the attention of Silvio Santos, who was passing by.
“When Silvio’s channel came out, he called me. ‘Roque, you treat people well, you’ll be responsible for my audience,'” Roque recalled in an interview with A Tarde É Sua in 2023. In the decades since, the internship assistant has always been proud of having been the “first employee of SBT.”

“Today is a day of pain that I never thought I would feel. I have lost not only a boss, but a great friend, a companion for decades of work, laughter and stories. Silvio has always been more than a boss; he was a teacher, someone who taught with a smile, who believed in simplicity and the value of people.
From the beginning, in the 60s, when I started working alongside him, I never imagined that we would experience so many things together. I saw him transform Brazilian television, I saw him enchant generations and I had the honor of being by his side at every moment. Silvio had this light, this unique ability to make everyone feel special, from his collaborators to the audience that accompanied him home.
Today the stage is emptier. SBT has lost its greatest glory and Brazil one of its greatest icons. But for me the loss is even greater: I have lost a brother in my life. I will always fondly remember the jokes, the advice and everything I learned alongside this extraordinary man.
Silvio, thank you for everything, I owe you my whole life, your example and your legacy will always be alive in me and in all those who have had the privilege of knowing you and working alongside you.
– Rock.”
