In an interview with the newspaper O Globo, Isabelle said she decided to take up the space behind the cameras after she began to feel the need to express her perspective. “I began to feel the lack, in the works that I was invited to do, of being able to add my vision of the world and my place as a woman,” she said.
Despite this, the transition was not easy. The actress and now director admits that she had to give up some things to accept this role. “I want to give voice to the stories that pass through me. All this takes time. I had to stop a bit in some periods. To make cinema in Brazil you have to dedicate yourself. Cinema is like a business,” she explained.
The two projects led by Isabelle tell the stories of real women. The first one traces the journey of Rio de Janeiro native Laura Alvim, who transformed her home into a cultural center in the South Zone of Rio de Janeiro. In addition to producing, the actress also has to give life to the protagonist.

“The film was born from my desire to tell my stories and especially those of women who are important to me. It was a very natural thing. I discovered Laura’s story during my visits to Ipanema, in readings and studies for other projects. I was very touched by her entire journey, by everything she was unable to experience and by the sacrifice she made for her dream,” she emphasized.
The other feature film produced by Isabelle Drummond tells the story of German Miriam Etz, the first woman to wear a bikini in Brazil. For this film, the actress also takes on the direction.
“The idea is to make three short films and turn them into a feature film. The first one involves this woman who had the idea to make the bikini. It was actually a two-piece swimsuit. Then her daughter came along [Ira Etz, pintora, escritora e fotógrafa]. It was a very promising Ipanema at the time, which became the Ipanema of Bossa Nova. There are several interwoven plots there, which emerged from this story. I produce this project and I will direct it”, he says.
Back on television
Full steam ahead as a film producer and director, Isabelle does not even rule out a return to television. The last soap opera directed by the actress was Summer 90shown by Globo in 2019.

“It all depends on the project, on the moment. I’m an actress, I also move as an actress. It depends on whether things work out. I can’t say it’s going to go this way or that way,” she said, choosing to leave the future open.
She also said that she was very hard on herself when she worked on TV, to the point where she couldn’t watch the soap operas she was working on. Now Isabelle guarantees that she doesn’t see herself that way.
“I used to be very critical, but lately I’m becoming more generous with myself and with the processes. Today I’m more gentle, but I don’t like to watch my scenes. I like to live them and allow what needs to come out in that moment I was very critical, it hurt a lot to watch. Today I’ve become calmer because now I’m on the other side. [da câmera] and seeing the actor, the process took on a different beauty for me”, said the actress who is on air in the rerun of “Cheias de charme”, on TV Globo.
The artist had television as a work environment even before she became an adult: Isabelle Drummond grew up in front of the cameras and played roles as a child actress on TV Globo. Although she became familiar with the spotlight from a young age, she admitted that she prefers to keep her intimacy secret.
“I like to talk about art, about my work. I like to exchange information with people who want to know more about the art I do and my vision of the world. I understand the curiosity in this place. Personal curiosity is already a matter of choices. There are those who open more, there are those who open less, I open less”, he said.
