Mariah Carey has revealed that her mother, Patricia, and sister, Alison, died “on the same day” “this past weekend”.
In a statement to People on Aug. 26, the singer said she was “devastated” by what happened, which she described as a “tragic turn of events.”
Within hours of the news breaking, it has been revealed what the last days of Alison, who was 63, were supposed to be like.
Mariah Carey’s sister was sick before she died
According to US Sun, Dave Baker, Alison’s close friend and caregiver, had been struggling with her health before her death.
“He was receiving palliative care at home for the last three weeks of his life,” she explained.
She shared that Mariah Carey’s older sister “had a problem with her internal organs.” However, he did not provide further details on the specific cause of death.
“Beneath a tough exterior, Alison was a very intelligent, warm and sensitive person,” Baker said when describing her.
“I have known her for nine years and, as her friend and carer for the last few months, I will miss her dearly,” he said.
To bid her farewell, he said, “Goodbye, Alison. May you now find peace and may your tormented soul be forever free from earthly pain.”
Mariah Carey would not have seen her sister
Apparently, according to the Daily Mail, Mariah Carey wasn’t with Alison before she left, as they would never have reconciled from their troubled relationship.
In her statement, the “All I Want For Christmas” singer explained that she felt “blessed” to “get to spend the last week” with her mother before her death.
However, she did not mention her sister, who was diagnosed with HIV in 1990, which led her to struggle with various conditions for much of her life.
In 2016, Alison pleaded with the music superstar to settle their differences and support her through her suffering, in a message to the Daily Mail: “I love you, I desperately need your help.”
In her 2020 book The Meaning of Mariah Carey, the actress claimed her sister “gave her Valium, tried to prostitute her and threw a cup of boiling tea at her, causing third-degree burns,” reports The Mirror.
Alison not only denied the accusations, but also tried to sue Mariah for $1.25 million in damages, although the case never went to court.
