Former Globo Actor Reveals: ‘I Played a Drug Addict and Became One’

Peter Vasconcelos50 years old, he said on Monday 23, that he had drug problems after playing a drug addict in the series The bearer (1990).

“I played a character addict…and I ended up becoming one too! It seems surreal, right? But that’s exactly what happened. How did I end up in this trap? And, most importantly, how did I manage to escape?”, wondered the directorin a post made on his Instagram profile.

In the report, Pedro states that he decided to use the drug as a form of laboratory for the character.

“In the case of the character, the use of hard drugs would have been an important experience to carry forward my work. From that moment on, I took the energy of that human being, behaviorally, mentally and emotionally, and I destroyed myself. I was exactly like him, lost, dependent and a slave to my unconscious behaviors.”

After completing the work, Vasconcelos noted that, like his character, his life had been damaged. “My character was immersed in drugs and, through an irrelevant impulse, I almost destroyed my life. That’s when everything started to fall apart… My life turned upside down and addiction trapped me in a way I never imagined.”

In the same post, the director told how he freed himself from his addiction.

How to get out? Through the same door we entered. Modeling, or the lab, changes our personal energy and causes a transformation in our being… I began to imagine myself healthy, happy and doing the things I truly loved to do. I created such a strong connection with good and healthy habits that it generated a slow and progressive transformation in me.”

Who is Pedro Vasconcelos?

Born in 1973 in Rio de Janeiro, he has received recognition for his work in the performing arts. In 1997 he starred in Training and was a romantic partner with Luana Piovani. Subsequently, he joined the cast of major productions, such as flagship model, Sweet Riacho, Vampire AND The next victim.

From 1997 to 2007 he was married to actress Daniela Pessoa, with whom he had a son, Lucas Vasconcelos. In 2008, he had Francisco Alencar. From 2012 to 2020 he dated Flávia Garrafa. In 2021 he married Paula Sachet. As a director, he has directed some successful soap operas, such as Soul mate AND The favorite. His last notable work in the craft was Mirror of life.
