Jamie Lee Curtis assumed that Ana de Armas had just arrived from Cuba and was new to Hollywood
Jamie Lee Curtis and Ana de Armas coincided with the filming of ‘Daggers in the back’, and their meeting was somewhat awkward for both… At least at first.
Ana de Armas already had a consecrated career in Spain, and had successfully participated in American films such as ‘Blade Runner 2049’, ‘Knock, Knock’ and ‘Game of Arms’, but Curtis did not seem to know anything about this. Curtis told the elle magazine who mistakenly assumed that de Armas had just arrived from Cuba and was new to Hollywood.
“I assumed, and I say this with real embarrassment because she had come from Cuba, that she had just arrived,” Curtis said. “I assumed that she was a young woman without experience or sophistication. that first day, I was like, ‘Oh, what are your dreams?‘”
Curtis claimed that she was so impressed with de Armas that wanted to introduce Steven Spielberg to play Maria in ‘West Side Story’, and Curtis’s godchildren, Maggie and Jake Gyllenhaal. She was surprised that de Armas already knew Jake. De Armas is also close to Keanu Reevesher co-star in her first English-language film, Eli Roth’s ‘Knock Knock’.
Curtis added about De Armas: “It’s not as elegant as the ads would have you believe. She leans in, interested; talking to her is a kind of give and take. She is curious and asks a lot of questions.”.
Little by little their friendship and trust grew and, shortly after the filming of ‘Daggers in the Back’, Ana de Armas contacted Curtis to share with her the first photos characterized as Marilyn Monroe for the movie ‘Blonde’. “She showed me a picture of her as Marilyn,” Curtis said. “My father [Tony Curtis] worked on ‘With skirts and crazy’ and I have a lot of pictures of me and Marilyn. Ana sent me a couple of photos and a video of her moving through the space without audio. But It was very shocking because she it was Marilyn.”
Jamie Lee Curtis has just amazed us with her role in ‘Everything at the same time everywhere’, while Ana de Armas premieres today in theaters ‘The invisible agent’, alongside Ryan Gosling and Chris Evans, and on September 23 she will launch her Marilyn biopic titled ‘Blonde’.
