The dismissal from Globo surprised the heartthrob: “I was one of the highest earners”

Marcello Antony now lives in Portugal, where he stands out as a luxury real estate agent

In an interview on the podcast ‘Jannuzzi e Abuzze’ by the journalist and former Globo reporter Flávia Jannuzzi, the actor Marcello Antony commented on his surprise at the station’s attitude in 2014.

“I was one of the first on the boat to be disconnected from Rede Globo. ‘Viver à Vida’ is over, Globo no longer wanted to continue its relationship with me,” he reported.

A heartthrob in his prime, with 18 years on the channel, Antony had expectations of staying employed. “I was 44 years old, I imagined following the path of a Tony Ramos, a Tarcísio Meira, doing more soap operas.”

Despite the shock of the closure, the artist said he understood the broadcaster. “There is an understanding, as a company, of what they have done. Everything is fine. At the time I was one of the people who earned the most at Globo, they were starting to cut costs and I was the first.”

Marcello returned to the network three years later to make “Malhação: Viva a Diferença”. It was his last TV job for the Marinho family. Shortly thereafter he moved with his family to Lisbon.

He worked in productions on the TVI channel and, at the same time, started entrepreneurship. Among his activities, he opened a restaurant in partnership with his wife, chef Carolina Villar.

This year Marcello Antony has prioritized a new career: luxury real estate agent. He recently announced on video a villa that costs 32 million euros, equivalent to R$200 million.

The actor, who will turn 60 in January, does not think of returning to live in Rio. “Brazil may be on a path of evolution, but I realize that it will still take many, many years before it becomes a civilized country.” he said in the Portuguese podcast ‘PT.BR’.
