The Washington Olivetto advertiser died this Sunday the 13th.one of the biggest names in the industry and creator of iconic campaigns, such as the ‘Bombril Boy’, the ‘Coppie Unibanco’ and the ‘first Valisère bra’. The information was confirmed at Earth from the Copa Star hospital, where Olivetto was hospitalized.

The professional had been hospitalized for five months in Rio de Janeiro, due to pulmonary complications and died of multiple organ failure, the newspaper published Folha de S.Paulo. In a statement, Copa Star mourned his death and expressed solidarity with his family and friends. See in full:

“Copa Star Hospital regrets the death of patient Washington Olivetto this Sunday afternoon (13 years old) and sympathizes with his family and friends for this irreparable loss. The hospital also informs that it does not have the family’s authorization to reveal further details.”

On its website, Olivetto is described as “not only an advertising icon around the world, but a popular figure in Brazil. One of the most awarded advertisers of all time.” He has won more than 50 Lions at the Cannes Advertising Festival, the most important advertising award in the world, and is the only Latin American to win a Clio, in 2001, considered the ‘Oscar of international advertising’.

He was also named as one of the world’s top 25 advertisers by the British magazine International Media and twice named Advertiser of the Century by the Association of Latin American Agencies and the news site Mercantile monitor.

Olivetto was also active on social media, where he shared tips on artists, exhibitions, dishes and restaurants. In the latest publication, made on Tuesday the 8th, he mentioned a seafood fideuá, one of his favorite dishes, which he tasted in a restaurant in São Paulo.

Iconic pieces and fanatical fans

With W/Brasil, his agency, Washington Olivetto marked an era with some of the main advertising campaigns. In 2001, the company received the “Grand Clio” award in a magazine campaign Era.

Among the best-known pieces, he was responsible for the ‘Coppie Unibanco’, the ‘First Valisère bra’, the ‘Hitler’ campaign, from the Giornale Folha de S.Paulothe “chubby guys from DDD” and “Garoto Bombril”, played by Carlos Alberto Bonetti Moreno.

The recognition also came thanks to two songs by Jorge Ben Jor, Bye, bye, with Brazil AND Engenho de Inside.

Olivetto also did not hide his passion for his favorite team, Corinthians, a love inherited from his uncle Armando. The publicist became vice president of marketing of the São Paulo club and one of the founders of the Democracia Corinthiana movement. In 2013, he was honored by the Gaviões da Fiel samba school in the São Paulo carnival parade, whose theme was the history of Brazilian advertising.
