Last Sunday, around 7pm, a registered case revealed that a 9-year-old child jumped a wall and invaded a veterinary hospital on Avenida Nicanor Ferreira de Melo, in the city of Nova Fátima, in northern Paraná. The boy killed 23 animals from a small farm he had opened there the day before.
The animals were reportedly thrown against the wall, while some had their legs torn off and dismembered. Captured by the farm’s security cameras, the boy confessed to kicking his head and throwing rabbits and guinea pigs. According to vets, he showed no remorse for the attack.
What happens to a 9 year old child after an animal attack?
The 9 year old child will be responsible for the gesture. According to the Statute of Children and Adolescents (ECA), the criminal system in force in Brazil considers minors under 18 years of age irresponsible (in criminal terms). According to the Federal Constitution of 1988, art. 228: “Minors under the age of eighteen are not criminally responsible, without prejudice to the provisions of special legislation”.
The Civil Police of Paraná issued a note stating that the case has been forwarded to the Protection Council: “Since the perpetrator of the crime is a 9-year-old child, there are no criminal implications. The police report and other information have been forwarded to the Protection Council.”
