Few know it, except the man from Alagoas Djavanit almost went in another direction before becoming an icon of Brazilian music. With a past on the lawn of the CSA, the singer revealed, in an interview with Globo Esporte, how he almost left Brazil without one of his greatest MPB talents. Last year, on the eve of world premiere of his “D” tour.Djavan recalled the time when the football field seemed more promising than the stage. In the 1960s, the voice of “Flor de Lis” sounded at the CSA (Centro Sportivo Alagoano), a sports association of Maceió, in Alagoas. “It was wonderful to have participated in this when I was 16, 17 years old. Here at Mutange (the team’s former field) I went three times a week to do (individual) or collective training,” he recalled.

Despite his love for the ball, football ended up being left behind when Djavan met a new “teammate”: the guitar. “It was a short-lived phase,” he explained, referring to the transition period in which he discovered music. “It was precisely the transition phase, the phase in which I discovered the instrument. When I finally chose music, a career as a musician, it was then that I discovered the instrument, because until then I had only sung. It was at that moment that I decided: no, football is very tiring, there’s a lot of running, I’ll just stick with music,” he explained.
