When does weaning start?
Weaning begins naturally with the introduction of food, when the baby begins to consume other foods and the demand for breast milk decreases. However, each mother-baby pair has its own rhythm.
Breastfeeding, which brings proven benefits to the health of mother and child, is recommended by the World Health Organization (WHO) exclusively up to six months and as a complement to the diet up to two years and beyond. For mothers, breastfeeding reduces the risk of developing breast, ovarian and uterine cancer, as well as cardiovascular disease and diabetes. For infants, breastfeeding reduces the incidence of respiratory infections, obesity and even some types of cancer.
