The sad fall of an ultra-popular presenter

For 14 years, Wendy Williams has been an icon of American TV. Now, banned from a bank, she battles addiction and dementia

For 14 years, Wendy Williams has become one of the most popular and powerful names on American TV. Emmy-winning icon of the black community hosted a program in which she commented on famous news and gave candid interviews. Until everything changed drastically. The Lifetime channel tried to figure out what happened to the host of the documentary series “Where’s Wendy Williams?” (“Where is Wendy Williams?”) and was surprised by the results of this search.

Over the course of four episodes, the production starkly shows Wendy’s battle with alcoholism and health problems. Due to lymphedema he has little sensation in his feet. Graves’ disease makes her eyes wide open. But that’s not all. Previously friendly, the host mistreats everyone and everything around her. And his entire fortune was blocked by a bank. And there’s more: a guardianship took her away from her family and they haven’t been able to see her for more than a year.

It’s a tremendously scary case, very reminiscent of what happened to Britney Spears. It got to the point that her son would be charged with kidnapping if she traveled to be with him – there was never any indication of mistreatment. Even more terrifying is seeing that, due to her alcoholism, Wendy ended up developing frontotemporal dementia and began forgetting dates, names and events.

It’s been a long time since we’ve seen a celebrity exposed so crudely. His narcissistic personality is clear, but so is his isolation, without friends and family. Everyone around him wants a share of his fortune, no one seems to truly want his happiness. Until the end of the documentary series, his whereabouts are unknown. Those who take care of her have decided to remove her from social life. It is extremely sad and distressing. And, by distancing the presenter from the presence of those who truly love her, American justice seems, once again, to make a wrong decision.
