Gerardo Ortiz’s former manager was investigated for suspected money laundering before his murder

Omar García Harfuch, Secretary of Security and Civil Protection of the Government of Mexico, confirmed that Jesús Pérez Alvear, former manager of singer Gerardo Ortiz, was killed.

“Yes, the Minister of Security, Pablo Vázquez, was the one who confirmed it to us [la identidad]”, he said in an interview with Azucena Uresti, from Radio Formula, this Thursday morning, December 5.

On the evening of Wednesday 4, the music promoter was inside a restaurant, located in Mexico City, when he was attacked.

According to Garcia, “two people with helmets” entered the facility. The surveillance video, released by journalist Carlos Jimenez, confirms the information.

In the video, you can see that the men shot Perez at 4:06 p.m. and then ran away.

The Citizen Security Secretariat said emergency services diagnosed “Chucho”, as he was known, “with no vital signs due to a gunshot wound to the head”.

The agency said it was apparently a direct attack. Its owner, Pablo Vázquez Camacho, said that investigations are already underway into what happened.

Jesús Pérez Alvear was being investigated

In his conversation with Azucena Uresti, Omar García Harfuch shared that Jesús Pérez Alvear was being investigated by the authorities.

“This individual is related to money laundering investigations in the United States,” he said.

“He has a charge there, the charge he has is open and he has other investigations in the United States,” he added.

Reportedly, “Chucho” would also be linked to the attack suffered by García Harfuch, who is the son of the artist María Sorté, in 2020, but he did not speak about it.

Diario El Universal reports, citing information from the FBI, that Pérez “had ties to the Jalisco Nueva Generación cartel since 2018.”

The media point out that he allegedly used his supporter, Gallística Diamante, to exchange the sums of money obtained by the criminal organization.
