Globo cuts a scene from ‘Volta por Cima’ and the actor complains about ‘censorship and homophobia’

Rodrigo Fagundes, actor of “Volta por Cima” complains on social media after Globo cut his scene and denounces “censorship and homophobia”

The soap opera Back to the topbroadcast at seven on TV Globo, was the subject of criticism after the cutting of a controversial scene this Thursday (12). The sequence, shown incompletely, concerns a relationship proposal between Gigi (Rodrigo Fagundes), Chico (Amauri Lorenzo) and Rossella (Isadora Cruz). The decision to remove the song generated repercussions on social media, especially among the most attentive viewers.

The scene was announced in the previous chapter, shown on Wednesday (11th), as part of the calls for the next episode. In it, Gigi, who pretends to be Roxelle’s straight boyfriend to make Chico jealous, makes a suggestive proposition: “Roxelle wants us to have a threesome. Are you ready?” However, on Thursday (12th), the show was changed, eliminating the direct speech and leaving only a hint in the air.

According to information obtained by the column, the cut was made at the request of Globo’s theater department. The justification would have been that the proposal of a trial could be considered inappropriate due to the light and familiar tone of the plot. The decision, however, was not liked by a part of the public, who considered the cut a form of censorship and homophobia, so much so that the issue was the subject of an intense debate on social media.

THE ACTOR WAS REVOLVED

The actor Rodrigo Fagundes, who plays Gigi, took to her social media to express her dissatisfaction with the decision. “Censorship and homophobia: for how long?”, the actor wrote in a post on Instagram, showing his discontent. The speech drew support from fans and colleagues, who highlighted the importance of broader discussions about representation and diversity in television productions.

The soap opera, which debuted at the end of September, maintains an average of 20 audience points in Greater São Paulo, repeating the numbers of its predecessor, Family is everything. Despite this, the cutting of the scene has reignited the debate on how LGBTQIA+ issues are treated in large-scale productions. So far, Globo has not officially commented on the case, leaving open the impact of this decision on the plot and public reception.
