The film recalls cases of violence against women and accuses the singer of having drugged and raped a former dancer
The singer Chris Brown is processing the Warner Bros. Discovery for alleged lies broadcast in the documentary Chris Brown: a story of violence. The film, released in 2024 and produced by the studio, revisits the artist’s problematic past, recalling cases of violence against women and accusing him of sexual violence against a former dancer.
Brown claims that the accusations made are false and is asking for compensation of 500 million dollars (about R$2.9 billion) for damage to his image. In the document, obtained by the website TMZ, the singer also states that, if he wins the case, he intends to donate the sum to victims of sexual abuse. In addition to Warner, the producer Ample is also a work in progress.
According to the artist’s defense, Brown has never been convicted of sexual crimes and the accusation made in the documentary is based on an old case, withdrawn by the alleged victim. In the film, a former dancer of the singer accuses him of drugging and raping her in 2020, while they were on a yacht. The woman’s identity was not revealed.
This isn’t the first accusation the singer has faced throughout his career. In 2016, the artist was accused of assaulting a model. A year later, he was convicted of violating a protection order against his ex-girlfriend, actress Karrueche Tran, after threatening to kill her.
The most famous case, however, was the attacks committed against singer Rihanna in 2009. The two were dating at the time. Brown was convicted in the case and his career was negatively affected by what happened. However, he has remained relevant in the music world.
