The leader of the British monarchy wants a distance from the daily life that his mother had, Elizabeth II

After being discharged from the hospital where he was treated with side effects of cancer treatment, King Charles III returned to Clarence House, a residence of almost 200 years in central London.

The monarch and his wife, Queen Camilla, have lived there for 19 years. They go to the official residence, Buckingham Palace, only to fulfill commitments, such as receptions to the heads of state.

Predecessor on the throne, Queen Elizabeth II has always lived in a suite on the second floor of the building. Her husband, Prince Filippo, lived in a room in front. Yes, they slept in separate beds.

Charles preferred to continue Clarence House for two reasons: privacy and silence. The construction is less exposed to paparazzi and the curious appearance of tourists and subjects. Already Buckingham attracts hundreds of people day and night.

At the moment, the building is under renovation. The king did not want to live on the spot with noise and dust. He warned that he will continue where he is also after the end of the revitalization of Buckingham.

On weekends, the pair usually goes to Highgrove House, a 160 km field house west of London. The refuge surrounded by nature has always been Charles’ favorite place.
