The actor couple Giovanna Ewbank and Bruno Gagliasso spoke for the first time in Sunday’s “Fantástico” (31/8) about the racist aggression carried out by a white woman against her 9 and 7-year-old sons Titi and Bless in a restaurant on a beach in Portugal. They gave details of what happened and mentioned that her daughter was scared of the episode, while the boy did not realize what was going on.
“We were on the beach playing and suddenly one of the children came over and told us what had happened. Then we were very upset. And it started and you saw those images,” said Bruno Gagliasso.
“When I was inside the restaurant, [ela] started cursing the children Titi and Bless, right? And also the Angolan family who were in the restaurant, who were about 15 years old [pessoas]”added Giovanni.
The actor said the restaurant manager asked the racist to leave, but there was a refusal with new attacks and curses. “She refused to leave and she started cursing loudly and we listened,” the actress said.
“When we understood what was happening, Bruno got up from the table and went to the manager with his wife to call the police. I saw that there was a strange movement, I saw that the Angolan family was a little behind and I began to realize it was racial, “he explained.
When asked by host Maju Coutinho about what words were said to her children, Ewbank and Gagliasso listed the offenses. “The woman was saying a lot of things. Among them, saying ‘dirty niggas’, ‘she goes back to Africa’,” the actress listed. “Portugal is not the place for you, get out of here,” added the actor.
“I think she never expected a white woman to fight her like I did, like that. I know that I, as a white woman, going to face her, my speech will be validated. Angry, as with so many other black mothers who they are lionesses like me in this episode, but they are invalidated and taxed like crazy and they are making it up, “said Giovanna.
Giovanna Ewbank and Bruno Gagliasso recalled being on “Fantástico” in 2017 to talk about racist attacks against Titi on social media. The actress said that she and her husband have learned that it is possible to use the exposition of their jokes to demand equality for all.
“It changed everything. I am a woman very aware of my privileges. I am a woman who is always surrounded by black women who learn every day and I will live up to the name of white privilege and fight with my head held high,” said Ewbank. “This fight is ours. The actress also confirmed that she slapped the woman after the racist act against her children. The actor immediately defended her by saying that the gesture cannot be classified as an assault.

Ewbank and Gagliasso adopted Titi in May 2016 after a trip to Malawi. Bless was introduced by the couple in 2019 and is from the same country as her sister.
