City Hall of the Municipality where the statue of Florinda Meza reacts upon request to withdraw it

The Juchipila Municipal Council, Zacatecas, where Florinda Meza was born, issued an official statement on the defense of the actor’s statue after a call on social networks to withdraw.

The controversy broke out after the premiere of Bioserie ‘Chepirito: Inadvertently, which has created reactions found in Meza’s public form.

Users organized an event on Facebook entitled “Everyone to remove the Florinda statue”, scheduled for July 24, which already has over 13,000 confirmed participants and 80,000 interested parties. In the call that states: “Soficremas were already softly burning our people, we will remove the sculpture of shame.”

The Municipal Government, led by Mayor José María Castro Félix, confirmed that the statue was put in place as an “act of institutional recognition” in the actress’ artistic trajectory, underlining her contribution to the popular culture of Mexico and her role as an ambassador to Juchipila.

“Florinda Meza will continue to be a distinguished daughter of Juchipila, whose artistic heritage is worthy of respect with an institutional recognition that remains in force,” the statement says.

The Municipal Council also condemned any demonstration of hatred, violence or incitement to the destruction of public symbols and reiterated its commitment to respect freedom of expression, provided it is exercised in the context of respect and courtesy.

The statue of Florinda Meza settled on January 17, 2019 in the central square of the municipality of Juchipila, Zacatecas, and was made by Víctor Hugo Yáñez Piña, a sculptor who specialized in the superlative sculpture portrait, who also regrets that he wants to attempt to attempt his work.

“I think removal is not their decision (publicly), they should not do so because it is a tribute to their success as an actor, not in their personal lives, this is something I do not enter,” he said on July 17 in an interview with “first hand”.
