Olivia Newton-John’s boyfriend DISAPPEARED at sea and has been found 11 years later

John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John were one of the most iconic movie couples with their role as Sandy and Danny in ‘Grease’. Off-camera, the actress enjoyed a long marriage of more than 14 years to John Easterling, whom she married in June 2008.

Before marrying John, Olivia Newton John was in a 9-year relationship with Patrick McDermott, who mysteriously disappeared in June 2005.

Olivia Newton-John, actress of “Grease”, experienced the disappearance of her ex-boyfriend Patrick McDermott.

Three years after being diagnosed with breast cancer (1992), a disease she battled for 30 years, Olivia Newton-John found love with cameraman Patrick McDermott.

For 9 years, the couple had an on-and-off relationship that, during one of their breaks, came to an abrupt end because McDermott disappeared.

On June 30, 2005, the cameraman set sail with 22 other passengers on an overnight fishing trip off California. However, he never returned to earth.

Some of his personal items, such as car keys, passport and wallet, were found on the ship. Likewise, his vehicle was spotted parked near the port where he was reportedly last seen.

On July 11, 2005, his ex-wife Yvette Nipar, an actress from the series “21 Jump Street” with whom Patrick was married from 1992 to 1993 and had a son, reported him missing.

The said disappearance has been fueled by speculation, as it is believed that McDermott faked his death to escape financial problems.

According to Fox News, at the time, Olivia Newton-John’s ex-partner owed $8,000 in back child support payments. Additionally, he was $31,000 in debt after filing for bankruptcy in 2000.

The search to locate him prompted an investigation by the Coast Guard. A year later it was concluded that there was no evidence “of a criminal act, suicide, accident or deception in McDermott’s disappearance”.

Similarly, a maritime safety inquiry closed his case in October 2008 suggesting that “McDermott was lost at sea”. His body was never found.

In April 2010, Olivia Newton John told the Australian Women’s Weekly that although Patrick’s investigation was now a closed case, she believed he was not going to settle with her.

“I think there will always be a question mark. Although the US Coast Guard closed the case and considered him missing at sea, I don’t think he’ll ever really be at peace with that.”

Did Olivia Newton-John’s ex-boyfriend disappear? Reports of his alleged whereabouts

Eleven years after Patrick McDermott disappeared, private investigator Philip Klein revealed to Dateline that the cameraman had not died or disappeared.

According to his research, which he later published in the book Lost at Sea: The Hunt for Patrick McDermott, several witnesses claimed to have seen the cameraman at Sayulita, a beach in the Mexican state of Nayarit.

Philip also assured that he was traced to this Mexican beach thanks to several IP addresses associated with Patrick.

The investigator also shared with Australian magazine ‘Woman’s Day’ that Patrick’s lawyer called him from Mexico City and asked them to stop bothering his client as he just wanted to get away from the drama.

Given the news that he is reportedly alive, the “Grease” actress revealed to “60 Minutes” in September 2016 what her ex-partner’s mysterious disappearance was like for her.

“It was very difficult, lost at sea and no one really knows what happened. It’s human to wonder [qué pasó]. But you know, these are the things in life you have to accept and let go. Because whenever you’re going through tough times, there’s always those worries.”

Despite the bitter pill of Patrick McDermott’s disappearance, this situation brought Olivia Newton-John and Patrick’s ex-wife Yvette Nipar together.

“I’ve become very close with his ex-wife, Yvette, who is a wonderful person, and we’ve become good friends. I see his son (Chance) and he’s doing well. He’s doing really well,” Olivia said in an interview with Larry King in October 2006.
