In the soap opera “Vale Tudo”, currently shown by Globo, Heleninha’s trajectory has undergone a significant turning point. The character, who lived by Paolla Oliveira, decided to ask for help from anonymous alcoholics after a sequence of episodes marked with the worsening of alcoholic dependence. The turning point occurs when he testifies James, his son, repeating behaviors similar to his, which leads her to reflect deeply on the consequences of her dependence.
The artist’s decision to face his condition occurs during a conversation with Dr. Ana, played by Arieta Corrêa. At the time, the doctor suggests that Heleninha participates in AA meetings and begins to assume financial responsibilities both for herself and for James. Medical advice is essential for the beginning of the character, with the support, his walk in search of recovery.
The moving scenes will be broadcast on Friday (15), at 21h20 (Brasilia time). In them, Heleninha appears accompanied by AFONSO (Humberto Carrão) during an AA meeting in a moment of sincerity and vulnerability, he shares his story with alcohol, revealing that he began to drink at the age of 16 after the death of his twin brother, Leonardo. At the end of the meeting, the character declares that this is his “day” of sobriety.
By the way, this is not the first time that the soap opera approaches the theme. In the original version of “Vale Tudo”, transmitted in 1988, the character also turned to AA, although this occurred only in the final chapters. However, the current remake, written by Manuela Dias, anticipated this plot, proposing an approach before the fight against alcoholism in the narrative.
In a recent interview, Patolla Oliveira commented on the impact of creative choice: “This time, we have the opportunity to talk about it previously. And thinking that I started building Heleninha by visiting AA, it perfectly makes sense to think about her trajectory so far. The main expectation is to deconstruct the image of the alcoholic as a failed person, without Willpower.”
The alcoholism approach to the soap opera was recognized for its social role. As pointed out Edelto Tavares Leite, vice -president of the Brazilian Alcolics General Services Board of Alcolons (Junaab), “The first version of” Vale Tudo “marked the history of anonymous alcoholics in Brazil, with a significant increase in the search for men and women by our brotherhood. Alcoholism does not care, but there is recovery.”
