Sidônio Palmeira has reported that the federal government has already sent $ 268 million for the countryside during the Lula period.
Minister Sidônio Palmeira of the Secretariat of Social Communication (Secom) of the Presidency of the Republic explained the criteria used by the Federal Government to distribute advertising funds between the television stations. In a hearing held on Thursday (18) at the Commission of the Chamber of Deputies, in Brasilia, the owner of the portfolio reported that 268 million dollars were engaged for advertising campaigns in various media by 2025.
During the meeting, Palmeira answered the questions of Deputy Junio do Amaral (PL-MG) on the difference in investment between Globo and other broadcasters such as SBT and record. The parliamentarian stressed that in 2023 the globe resources would be 17 times higher than those directed to SBT, who ranked second in the ranking of federal advertising spending.
The minister contested the figures presented by the deputy and clarified that he had taken the command of Secom only at the beginning of this year. Palmeira recalled that, in the mentioned period, the secretary was under the management of the Federal Federal Paulo Pure (PT-T).
The data presented at the hearing showed that in 2024 Globo received advertising investments of the Lula government four times bigger than the record, second in the distribution of funds. According to the National Television Panel (PNT), Globo closed 2024 with an average of 13 points, while the record recorded 5.1 points and 3.4 SBT points.
“I have no commitment to any advertising agency or communication vehicle. The criterion for the distribution of money has been, it is and will always be the public, so there is no preference for the newspaper A or B”, said the Minister of Secom.
Palmeira stressed that this principle “was and will always be” applied in the distribution of advertising resources of the federal government. To increase transparency in the process, the minister suggested that the Federal Court of Audit (TCU) assumes “total control” on the offers and contracts of the advertising of the Federal Government.
